In Lorient, Southern Brittany, we are proud of our coastline and our beaches! There is something for everyone. Every beach has clean, refreshing water. Only 10 minutes from the VICTOR HUGO hotel!
Some have swimming areas manned by lifeguards in summer, as well as showers and dry toilets. Hippocampe wheelchairs are also available at some of our beaches for those with reduced mobility.
Our sandy beaches are vast, so you’ll always find a space, even at the height of summer. And when the tide goes out, there’s even more space for activities: running, jogging, building sand castles… or crabbing among the rocks at the edge of the beach. Water sports are available at many beaches: surfing, kitesurfing, sailing, kayaking… Everyone getting along!
Port Maria and Toulhars beaches, Larmor-Plage.
At Port-Maria, you can enjoy a coffee or a beer, or have lunch or dinner on a terrace overlooking the sea at one of the many beach-front bars and restaurants. Your children can join in with the Beach Club or build sand castles before your eyes. This beach is manned by lifeguards in summer.
At Toulhars, an urban beach, you can swim, surf and admire the boats coming in and out of the bay. Fishing boats, shuttles to Groix, yachts and motorboats. In good whether, its a veritable ballet!
Only 10 minutes from the VICTOR HUGO hotel by car, this beach comes highly recommended! (You can also get there easily by bus from the city centre.)
Kerguelen beach, Larmor-Plage. A long, 1.6 km sandy beach, nicknamed Lorient Beach! This beach is home to the Kerguelen Water Sports Centre which offers a range of water sports for young and old as well as equipment hire: dinghies, catamarans, windsurfing…
The neighbouring beach is perfect for a mix of holiday activities: you can sunbathe or swim before going back for more sports! This beach is manned by lifeguards in summer.
Only 11 minutes from the VICTOR HUGO hotel by car, this beach comes highly recommended! (You can also get there easily by bus from the city centre.)
Fort Bloque Beach, Ploemeur-Guidel. A huge sandy beach with a gentle slope and a few rocks, just enough to have fun without them getting in the way. The perfect place to spend the day with tots, kids and teens. In summer the swimming area is manned by lifeguards.
What’s more, the coastal road down to the beach offers beautiful vistas along the coast.
You can take the bus or drive from the VICTOR HUGO hotel.
Falaise Beach, Guidel. A great beach for surfing, however its river-mouth location makes it a relatively dangerous beach due to strong currents and riptides. Swimming is nevertheless permitted and the beach is manned by lifeguards in summer.
There is a surf and sailing school by the car park.
The beach and dune are often damaged by storms in winter. Please pay attention to the information boards and prohibitions.
This is not an exhaustive list, there are beaches all along the coast, most are manned by lifeguards in summer and easy to access.

Parcabout,Groix island. For a day trip, set off from Lorient quay, a stone’s throw from the VICTOR HUGO hotel, and take a 45 minute crossing to Groix island, off the coast of Lorient.You can hire bikes at the port or walk to the Parcabout.
The Parcabout offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity, created on Groix island, to move through the trees, several metres high, on nets just like those you’d find on a boat. It’s completely safe and perfect for children.
Experia Park, Ploemeur. An adventure park with a treetop trail, known locally as the accrobranche!A fantastic activity with friends and family, in magnificent surroundings.
The park is open from February to October and offers different levels of difficulty so both young and old can enjoy the experience. A short trip from the VICTOR HUGO hote, 15 minutes by car or accessible by bike along the greenway,enjoy a thrilling morning or afternoon out!

Built by the Germans during WWII, this submarine base propelled Lorient into the heart of the Battle of the Atlantic.
